Investing in Adult education Is a Contribution that Will Help Ensure Democratic Freedoms, National Security, Stability and Community Development

The Charitable Organization (CO) Light of Hope has grown from a small mutual aid group to a successful institution in the last nineteen years. However, the first years of activity were difficult for neither the authorities nor business representatives wanted to spend time and money on adult education, and the only thing the founders of the organization worked on was establishing partnerships for its further development.

But the project was needed by the local authorities, who realized: If we do not invest in the education of our residents, then we cannot have a modern city with active citizens.

CO Light of Hope in cooperation with the higher educational institution Ukrkopolskiy Poltava University of Economics and Trade received funding for the provision of adult education services from the city budget.

At the end of May, the Poltava City Council supported the implementation of the social project University of the Third Age. The decision to allocate UAH 420,000 of budget funds to the "Care" program was approved at the regular session of the city council.

The decision is based on the Cabinet of Ministers order of 2018 on the implementation of the "Strategy of the state policy for the healthy and active longevity of the population for the period up to 2022." As stated in the document, "The Strategy's goal is to ensure the achievement of Ukraine's adapted sustainable development goals, endorsed by the leaders of the countries at a meeting of the UN General Assembly in September 2015, the creation of favorable conditions for healthy and active longevity, ensuring the adaptation of public institutions to meet the needs associated with demographic aging and building a society that offers equal opportunities."

This year we launch a newsletter specifically for UAEA members to talk about how their activities, support, and engagement change the country and help develop adult education in Ukraine. For anyone who wants to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in adult education in Ukraine, we encourage you to subscribe to the mailing list.
